Sizing best practice

Each implementation of Raydesk, Sun Ray technology or Secure Global Desktop technology will be unique to a specific environment. However, here are some basic sizing recommendations. We also provide access to a broad range of structured support documents to help your sizing needs via Raydesk wiki.

Raydesk user Type 1

Users running Raydesk desktop are accessing a MS Windows application via windows opened for each application from the MS enviroment. This environment has minimal impact on the Raydesk sizing calculation because the Raydesk server does not directly execute the applications. The Internet browser is the only local application that is executed on a Raydesk server (maximum 40 users per core total).

Raydesk user Type 2

Average user accessing all office application from a Linux or Solaris environment. In this case, all user applications have a direct impact on the sizing calculation, as they are executed directly on the Raydesk server. This is an average office user with an EPR client via Sun Ray Win Connector or rdesktop. OpenOffice.org, e-mail client and Internet browser, and some basic instant messaging tools are accessed from  the Raydesk server (10 users per core total).

Raydesk user Type 3

Heavy user accessing all office application from a Linux or Solaris environment. In this case, all applications have a large direct impact on the sizing calculation, as they are executed directly on the Raydesk server. GIMP, Java, Matlab, Inkscape, OpenOffice.org, e-mail client and Internet browser, and some basic instant messaging tools are accessed from the Raydesk server (6 users per core total).
